Getting started

Your first week collecting feedback: start by listening

A seven-day plan to prepare your link, make your first request and turn what you hear into a useful next step.

You do not need a complete campaign to start listening to customers. You need to choose when to ask, make responding straightforward and set aside time to read what comes back. Your first week is a chance to see how that routine fits your business.

This is a suggested work plan, not a forecast of results. Adjust the days to the pace of your visits. A small number of responses gives you something specific to check before expanding your requests.

Days 1 and 2: prepare the journey

Choose an experience you want to understand: a first visit, an order handover or a completed appointment. Ask a question customers can answer from what they have just experienced.

Prepare your link and open it on a phone. Check the business name, the question and the final message. If you submit a test response, identify it as a test and separate it from real feedback. Do not publish it as a testimonial.

  • The link opens the correct business's form.
  • The question makes sense without a staff explanation.
  • Customers can distinguish sharing feedback from allowing publication.

Days 3 and 4: make a simple request

Choose a repeatable moment, such as after confirming that the service is complete. Use the same criteria to invite people regardless of whether they seem satisfied. Let them choose when to reply and what to say.

Start with a channel you already use appropriately with customers. Record when you made the request so another team member does not repeat it.

Example to adapt

Thanks for visiting [business]. If you would like to, you can tell us how it went here: [link]. It helps us understand what works and what we can improve.

Day 5: read before you count

Set aside time to read each response in full. Separate what the customer describes from your interpretation. ‘I waited without knowing how long it would take’ concerns waiting and communication; it does not establish that the whole service is slow.

Group comments under a few topics and note what you need to check. If nobody has replied yet, review the link and the clarity of the request. Avoid changing the form, channel and timing together.

Days 6 and 7: choose one improvement and repeat

Choose a small action your team controls: explain a wait, review an instruction or clarify the next step of a booking. Record who will do it and when you will review what happened.

Count requests, responses and testimonials with publishing permission separately. A click towards Google does not confirm a published review there. Next week, repeat the process and look at both the comments and the numbers.

Put it into practice

Finish the week with a routine you can repeat: a moment to ask, a way to respond and a concrete improvement to review. Your first goal is to learn to listen consistently.
