A QR code for customer reviews: where to put it and what to write

Choose a review destination, write a clear QR invitation and test your printed code. A practical guide for counters, tables, receipts and service cards.

A QR code removes the need to type a link. It does not explain why somebody should open it. A small sign saying what happens next is often the missing part of a review request.

Before you design the card, decide where the code should lead and when the customer will see it. Those two choices shape everything else.

Choose the destination before you print

A direct Google review link takes the customer towards a public Google review. A Sayso link opens your feedback form, sends the response to your dashboard and lets you approve testimonials for your own website. Growth and Scale can also offer a next step to Google.

These are different journeys. Label the code for the page it actually opens. If your form collects private feedback first, ‘Tell us about your visit’ is clearer than promising that the first tap publishes a Google review.

Use a destination you expect to maintain. If you change the project link after printing a batch of cards, test whether the old code still reaches the right page before handing them out.

Put it where the customer has finished the experience

Look for a natural pause. At a counter, the customer may have a moment after paying. At a table, a card can be useful once the meal is over. For a service at home, a handover card may make more sense than a sign on your premises.

Choose one placement first. If you put codes everywhere immediately, it becomes harder to understand which one is useful. Avoid spots that require someone to lean across a queue, interrupt their appointment or block other customers.

  • Counter: keep the invitation readable from the customer's side.
  • Table: separate feedback from the code used to order or pay.
  • Receipt: include a short URL as a fallback.
  • Handover card: explain when to leave feedback if the result needs time to assess.

Write a caption that answers ‘what is this for?’

Name the action and the destination in plain language. Avoid ‘Scan me’ on its own: it asks for an action without giving a reason. Do not promise a reward or prescribe a rating.

Here is a sample caption for a card that opens a feedback form. It is an example to adapt, not a claim about a particular business.

Example to adapt

How was your visit? Scan to share your feedback with [business]. Prefer to type? [short review URL]

Test the printed object, not just the design file

Download the QR from Sayso's sharing tools and place it on the material you plan to use. Keep its contrast and the clear space around it. Avoid stretching the image, cutting off an edge or placing it over a busy photograph.

Print a sample at its final size. Scan it on different phones, in the lighting where it will be used, from a comfortable distance. Try the page without being logged into Sayso. Check that the business name and request are correct.

There is no single size that works in every situation. A tabletop card and a window poster are viewed from different distances. Use the physical test to decide whether the code needs to be larger.

Review the results without overreading the numbers

Sayso tracks form activity and responses, including QR source information where the shared link includes the source tag. Keep that tag when printing a QR created by the product.

An opening is not a completed opinion. A Google click is not a confirmed Google review. Compare the steps before deciding whether the code, caption or form needs attention. If a code stops scanning after a card is laminated or displayed behind glass, solve that practical problem first.

Put it into practice

One clear invitation beside a tested QR is a useful starting point. Make the destination honest, the code readable and the next step obvious.
